Why I write about Singapore

My name is Justin Yi. I'm American, I lived in Singapore, and I have visited more than 110 other countries. That gives me a practical point of comparison when I write about what helps a move go well—and what can make it harder.

The short version

I speak Mandarin and have friendships and business relationships in Singapore. Those help me listen more carefully, but they do not turn an individual observation into a rule for every reader.

I lived in Marine Parade. That's not a placeholder detail, it's the one specific I can tell you with full confidence: which neighborhood, and the kind of daily life that comes with a residential, east-coast part of the island rather than a downtown high-rise.

How this site earns trust

Where this site has a real detail (Marine Parade, the bank-account process, the insurance gap), it says what was experienced rather than presenting it as a universal rule. Where a topic depends on regulation, fees or eligibility, the guide links to the authority or provider that owns that information.

The same goes for regulations and prices. Visa rules, tax thresholds, insurance costs: these change, and they matter too much to state with confidence I don't have. Where something needs a source check, it's marked, not guessed.

What this site is, and isn't

LivingSingapore covers the practical, logistical, and cultural sides of moving to and living in Singapore, written specifically with Americans in mind since that's an underserved angle relative to the generic expat content already out there. It's not financial or immigration advice; where those topics come up, the site says so plainly and points you toward getting real professional advice for your specific situation.

It is also clear about money. Provider links are currently direct links, not affiliate links. If that changes, the link itself and the full disclosure will say so clearly.
